HP is fighting a losing battle with Oracle over Itanium

Hewlett-Packard Co. said it sent a demand letter to Oracle Corp. stating that its rival is legally bound to keep developing software for H-P servers that use an Intel Corp. chip called Itanium.

Not only is Itanium an effectively dead technology, but the last thing you want to do is to *force* development by a company you have no managerial oversight of.

Even if HP gets a court order in their favor, rest assured that whatever comes out of Oracle is likely to be poorly coded, maintained and supported.

HP’s best bet is to abandon Itanium altogether and offer cut-rate update/upgrade/swap/exchange deals to clients who rely on their Itanium products.
