I really hope Chrome doesn’t kill Firefox, but it will if this keeps up

The character painting delay is reproducible on the following environments (with Facebook timeline enabled, writing in the status textbox):

Nearly 2 weeks ago, users reported the above Firefox bug involving performance while on Facebook Timeline that’s so bad it renders the browser relatively unusable on the site.

It still isn’t fixed.

Let me get this straight: you’re barely hanging on to – and by some measures, already lost – the #2 position in the browser market. The competition, widely perceived to be faster, is eating you alive. Your users, whom you encourage to participate in the testing process – report a major performance issue with the web’s #1 site. And you don’t fix it?

As someone who’s worked in software development, I know bugfixing isn’t easy, but this is pretty serious. Can someone please get on it?

This reminds me of the bad old days in which Mozilla took ages to fix Firefox’s memory leak issues. By the time they did so the browser’s reputation had been tarnished to the point that many users still believe the problem persists despite numerous independent tests showing that it uses less RAM than any of the competition. Some jumped ship to Chrome and refuse to look back.

In the meantime, I’ve been forced to switch to Chrome Canary for Facebook browsing.
