Apple takes its store offline for updates because it has to

Apple can’t update its online store without taking it offline first.

Another year, another rant by a major tech company engineer. This guy, an ex-Apple hack, has revealed that Apple’s famous store outages during updates aren’t publicity stunts, they’re actually technically necessary.

That’s shockingly bad. I don’t know of any other major tech retailer or manufacturer who needs to take their site offline to update it. If this is true, it implies Apple is well over a decade behind its competition in terms of web infrastructure.
